Dr. Elena Victoria Ghionis is the Assistant Professor of Education and Director of Special Education Programs.

She teaches students across different educational tiers, including undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Her instructional approach prioritizes a student-centered pedagogy that incorporates active learning, collaboration, inquiry-based learning, and real-world connections, all of which cultivate essential skills for special education teachers.

Scholarly & Research Activity

In addition to her teaching, Dr. Ghionis actively participates in the academic community by evaluating proposals for the Council of Exceptional Learners (CEC) and the International Society for Autism Research (INSAR). Her research focuses on assessment and teaching methods for individuals with exceptionalities, particularly emphasizing the needs of at-risk children. Her studies also investigate the co-existing conditions associated with autism and developmental disabilities, recognizing the difficulties faced by these individuals.
