SCDE Gifted and Talented Endorsement and Advanced Gifted Courses

The following SCDE Grant-Funded Gifted and Talented Endorsement and Advanced Gifted Courses are made possible by funding from the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE). These courses can be applied toward Converse’s Master of Education (MEd) in Gifted Education.

Gifted Endorsement Course — EDU591: Nature and Needs of the Gifted and Talented

Course Format: Online

Spring Course Dates:  2/10/2025 – 4/13/2025 (Application Deadline: 1/15/2025) 7 Sections

Course Format: Online

Spring Course Dates: 4/14/2025 – 6/15/2025 (Application Deadline: 2/14/2025) 7 Sections

Summer Course Dates: 4/28/2025 – 6/29/2025 (Application Deadline: 3/7/2025) 3 Sections

Course Prerequisite: Nature and Needs of the Gifted

EDU 593 — Advanced Curriculum Practices in Gifted Education

Course Format: Online

Spring Course Dates: 2/10/2025 – 4/13/2025 (Application Deadline: 1/15/2025) 1 Section

Advanced Gifted Course — EDU526: Identification and Issues in Gifted Education

Course Format: Online

Summer Course Dates: 4/8/2025 – 6/29/2025 (Application Deadline: 3/27/2025) 1 Section

Course Prerequisites:

  • Nature and Needs of the Gifted
  • Curriculum and Instruction for the Gifted and Talented
  • Participants must hold SC Gifted and Talented Endorsement

Course is limited to 15 participants.

Advanced Gifted Course EDU599: Creativity Institute

Course Format: Face-to-Face
Location: Converse University – Spartanburg Campus

Summer Course Dates: 4/12/2025 & 6/9 to 6/13/2025

Times: 9:30 am -3:30 pm

Application Deadline: 3/7/2025

Upon notification of acceptance, a $100 registration fee is required to hold your seat in the course. The registration fee will be returned upon successful completion of the course. Course is limited to 15 participants.

Seating Priority for GT Endorsement courses, EDU 591 and EDU 592

PLEASE NOTE: * Maximum enrollment in each endorsement class is 25. Email priority confirmation forms to gt@converse.edu to complete the course application process. The Confirmation of Priority must be signed by the applicant’s principal or gifted coordinator.

Seats will be awarded based on the following priorities:

  • First priority (highest level)—teachers who have already completed one of the two endorsement classes and are currently teaching GT students, and GT district coordinators who do not have the required credential of GT endorsement.
  • Second priority (middle level A)—teachers who are currently teaching GT students and have not taken an endorsement class or those who have completed one class and are assigned to teach GT students for the upcoming year.
  • Third priority (middle level B)—teachers who have not completed any courses but are assigned to teach GT students for the upcoming semester or school year.
  • Fourth priority (lowest level)—teachers and administrators who have not completed any courses and who are not assigned to teach GT
