Student Activities

Work hard. Play hard. We think that’s a good formula for life and we make it happen at Converse. In fact, one of our goals is to have a healthy balance between academic pursuits and social activities. You will cultivate the Converse community by joining one of our 35 student clubs and organizations — or starting a new one.
With local weekend trips to Charleston or Charlotte, major events like the Winter Ball or May Day or watching the Valkyries are playing a big rival, you will find a mosaic of unique cultural opportunities and fun activities both on and off-campus.
We also cherish our 125+ year-old traditions such as Opening Convocation, Founder’s Day, 1889 Spirit Week, and Celebration Weekend.
You can even help shape our traditions and events by being on the Converse Activities Board.
Events and Traditions
Events and traditions at Converse foster connection by building a sense of community, identity, and belonging among students. Read more about Converse’s annual events and traditions.
Our Valkyrie Mascot

The legend of the Valkyries was born in Norse mythology. Also known as “Choosers of the Slain,” the Valkyries are beautiful, strong warrior goddesses, mounted upon winged horses and armed with spears and shields, who preside over battles – governing victory and choosing souls of the greatest fallen heroes to bring back to Valhalla.
Our mascot, Val, symbolizes school and community spirit and helps enrich the campus life experience for students. Val motivates, inspires, and entertains others at games and appearances; displays a good sense of sportsmanship; builds positive relationships with the community; and maintains Converse traditions. Keep up with Val’s adventures on Instagram or book an appearance.
Clubs and Organizations
